How To Stop Snoring By Altering Your Diet

There are several causes of snoring and, each cause has different ways to stop snoring.
Dietary manipulation has however been shown to improve or banish snoring in a large number of people.
De Luca published a study on 86 children, in the Medical and surgical paediatrics journal in 1988. In this study he showed evidence that food allergy could cause airway disease including snoring and nasal obstruction
Also in De Luca’s paper in the same journal in 1986, a study of 30 children showed that elimination of food allergens from the diet caused disappearance of nasal, laryngeal and peripheral obstructive syndrome in most of the children
Food allergens are foods that cause an allergic reaction.
In the case of snoring, this reaction is mild and manifests as swelling of the lining of the airways and increased mucus production. This leads to a narrowing of the airways which can manifest as snoring
The following are foods that according to the US FDA account for 90% of all food allergies.
Milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, peanuts, wheat, fish and soybeans
If you take any of these foods regularly, especially at night time, consider eliminating just one item from your evening meal and observe the results. If there is no improvement in your snoring, that item is probably not the culprit
Try other items from the list above.
In some people, the food allergen is not in this list so you may have to do a little research
Other diet related things you should consider are
Lose weight: always in every list and works a treat, especially if you are overweight. Go on a diet, do more exercise or both. This reduces the amount of fat around your airways and helps improve your muscle tone [both generally and around your airways]. An improved muscle tone around your airways means the tendency to close during sleep is reduced, thereby reducing snoring
Avoid dairy products, fatty foods, cakes and chocolate at night.
